It’s a very special year for us here at Williams Lynch as we celebrate a significant milestone.
Celebrate good times, come on!
Williams Lynch is 20 years old and we can hardly believe it.
Two decades ago (that’s 175,200 hours to be precise) Mark Williams, our managing director, opened the agency in 1998 and never imagined he would still be running the show in 2018.
And wow, SE1 has truly become a desirable location in that time.
In 1998, Williams Lynch was selling residential units in Tanner Street for £135,000 (830 sq feet). In 2017, the same units sold for close to £1million.
This paints a picture of how far we’ve come.
It’s fair to say that Bermondsey Street was pretty bleak in 1998. Even down on Bermondsey Square there was nothing – just an open concrete car park where the Bermondsey Street Hotel now stands.
But we’ve watched as Bermondsey has blossomed from a no-go area to a hip and fashionable part of town. A couple of weekends ago, Bermondsey Street came alive as the annual festival brought the community together to
to celebrate local surrounding shops, artists, galleries, businesses, restaurants and bars.
We were delighted to be part of the celebration…and proud to be part of a caring and thriving community.
It’s not easy to weather the storm. We’ve seen the good times – the growth of SE1 into a desirable postcode… and the lows as the credit crunch hit in 2008.
Only a week into opening the agency at 90 Bermondsey Street in 1998, the office was ransacked by burglars.
We’ve had our ups and downs but to weather the storms the decades have thrown at us has shown that for a small, independent estate agency we punch well above our weight. We are honest and transparent and that is one of the reasons for our longevity.
